Jesus Maria Espinosa
Jesus Maria Espinosa was a Colombian painter who lived from 1908 to 1995. He was born in the town Belalcazar. He was descended from artists, including Jose Maria Espinosa, who was famous for his miniatures.
When he was young, he was trained by his grandfather, who taught him how to use vegetable dye to color his work. Later he was taught by the painter Andre Derain. Jesus went one to have multiple students himself. He spent more than thirty years teaching in different places. He set up an artists' academy in Cali, Colombia. He is famous for his portraits, two of which are shown on this page, plus a self-portrait.
