For the past ten thousand years people have inhabited modern day Colombia.
In the fifteen hundreds Spanish explorers settled in Colombia. The Spanish spread through much of Colombia and other parts of South America. By the seventeen and eighteen hundreds, fighting between federalists and centralist had broken out. Cities and provinces declared themselves solitary from one another. Around 1810 the Spanish dispersed, leaving others to sort out the government.
The government is a constitutional republic that gained independence from Spain on July 20th, 1810. The constitution was finalized on July 5th, 1991. The current president is Juan Manuel Santos.
The Colombian currency is Colombian Pesos. One US dollar is equal to 1,800.47 Colombian Pesos.
The colors of the Colombian flag are yellow, blue, and red. Yellow represents generosity, blue represents loyalty and truth, and red represents strength and bravery.
